At STP Construction, we take a positive and proactive approach to each project, putting the local people and community first.
As a company, we are constantly looking to drive the creation of more sustainable construction, starting with our internal processes.
In order to reduce our carbon footprint and minimise the use of fossil fuels, we have recently changed the energy provider for our head office in order to ensure that the electric power provided is 100% sustainably sourced.
We have also invested in new excavators, dumpers and rollers in order to lower emissions. This essential machinery is more fuel efficient than the previous equipment that we owned or hired in the past. We are also constantly updating processes to decrease deadhead loads and creating opportunities for backhauls whenever possible.
Our commitment to sustainability does not stop at our internal processes. From design through to construction, we are committed to minimising the impact we have on the communities and environment in which we operate.
For example, our warehouse extension project for the Tandem Group in Birmingham is BREEAM Excellent rated. We managed to undertake the initial earthworks with a minimum amount of material either taken off-site or imported. Any imported material was recycled demolition waste.
Likewise, we have invested in a photovoltaic (PV) generator. The solar panels convert sunlight into direct current to be used within our projects.
Solar energy is a locally available renewable resource and does not release any harmful air or water pollution into the environment or endanger animal or human health, supporting our sustainable approach to construction.

In a push to adopt more sustainable business practices, many organisations that we work with are evaluating how to promote green living amongst their staff.
As a result, more of our building designs of late have incorporated elements that have an ongoing positive influence on the people who inhabit them.
For example, we have installed bike storage and changing facilities within the basement of our Sovereign Quay project in Leeds as part of the developers Sustainability and Green Transport initiative.
We have also installed multiple EV charging points at our site at Lookers VW Preston as part of Lookers PLC sustainability strategy.
